What is C2PA?
Last updated October 5, 2026
C2PA is an open standard that attaches a cryptographically signed record of who created a file, with which tool, and what edits were made. The record is called a manifest, and the label people see is "Content Credentials".
What it proves
- Which device or app signed the file.
- Which edits were declared afterwards.
- That the file hasn't changed since it was signed.
What it does not prove
- That the scene is true — a signed photo can still be staged.
- Anything about files without a manifest. Most images online have none, because social platforms often strip it.
How to check it
Upload a file to the C2PA verifier. Read the full guide: C2PA Content Credentials explained.
